Bonnie was born in Concord, MA, to William Weickert and Barbara Shaw. After spending her childhood in Carlyle and Marblehead, MA, she moved with her family to Falmouth, ME. She graduated from Waynflete High and attended Maine College of Art with a concentration in fine art before graduating from University of Southern Maine in art education. Bonnie spent time working at her family’s art supply store in Portland, The Artisans, where she enjoyed helping others with their own creative projects—an ongoing theme in her life. Bonnie also worked in the catering business, discerning a talent for culinary which would also develop into a lifelong love.
Bonnie developed her artistic skills as time went on—for which many recognize her. She started working with clients on custom business signs in the Portland area, murals, and decorative painting of all kinds including volunteering her skills at the Falmouth Memorial Library and elsewhere. She also worked with individuals and shops on needlepoint finishing to help bring individuals’ projects to life with her expertise. Word of mouth carried as her time filled with interactions, meeting those with creative visions she helped to actualize.
Bonnie was married for 35 years to Bruce, and had two sons, Ben and Warren. She was a natural, caring mother. She cherished her time with family, spending birthdays and holidays over the years at her brother and sisters’ houses with her nieces and nephews. She loved time spent at her homes near Falmouth Town Landing and later Middle Road, cruising by boat on Casco Bay, camping, and many road trips. Her connection to her family’s house in Seal Harbor, ME, was her favorite family endeavor—always providing a beautiful safe haven for family connection and closeness from the time she was a child.
Bonnie started teaching art for Falmouth Elementary School in 1996, a career that would last 25 years. She was a natural educator and is remembered for her ability to capture the attention of her students. She truly valued the connection she had with her kids which was reflected in the way they interacted with her—never shy to approach her at the grocery store and around town fondly as “Mrs. Taylor!”
Bonnie’s approach to life was nothing short of profound—she was a spirited truth seeker through it. Her sense of humor, integrity and equality echoed through her interactions with those she knew. She will forever be remembered as a champion for the unique.
Her presence is deeply missed.
Bonnie is survived by Lisa Weickert and Garry Michaud, Amy and Peter Cullinan, Sandy and Bob Hodsdon, and William (Chip) and Mary Weickert, as well as her husband, Bruce Taylor, and sons, Ben and Warren Taylor.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at the First Parish Church 425 Congress St, Portland, ME 04101, on Saturday, October 1st. at 2PM.
