William Joseph McBreen

William Joseph McBreen, 73, passed away on September 29, 2024, in Fort Pierce, FL, just one day shy of his 74th birthday. Born on September 30, 1950, to Arthur F. McBreen, Sr. and Barbara McBreen, William, fondly known as Bill, was a cherished member of his community and a beloved figure in his family.

Bill graduated from Central Islip High School in Central Islip, NY. His commitment to service was evident early on as he joined the US Army, serving as a Parachute Rigger during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a press operator at the Stuart News, where he was known for his diligent work ethic and camaraderie with colleagues.

Bill was a man of many interests, including a deep passion for World War II history, inspired by his father’s significant role as an aircraft mechanic and Bronze Star recipient during the Battle of the Bulge. He also found joy in observing the diverse wildlife of Florida, particularly the waterfowl that frequented the lakes and canals near his home.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia McBreen of Port St. Lucie, FL; his son, Matthew McBreen of Jupiter, FL; his brother, Art McBreen of Fairfield, IA; and his stepdaughters, Jennifer Ater of Bettendorf, IA, and Vickie O'Hearn of Lumberton, NC. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur F. McBreen, Sr. and Barbara McBreen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Bayshore Club in Port St. Lucie on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 1:30 pm, where friends, family, and acquaintances are invited to share in commemorating Bill’s life. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of William can be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization close to his heart. Bill's legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to his passions and loved ones will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
