Paul was born in Newark, DE on March 24, 1936, son of the late Ernest Edwin Smith and Verla Pauline Smith. The beloved husband of Sandra R Smith, Paul and Sandy had been married 58 years.
Paul graduated from Newark High School in 1954 in Newark, Delaware and attended Delaware Technical and Community College. He started working as an electrical draftsman for DuPont and Atlantic Aviation. He began his career as a pilot with Altair Airlines in 1968 and moved to Director of flight operations. He also flew for Wheeler Airlines and was a flight instructor with Flight Safety. After he retired he continued his love of flying by building and flying remote controlled airplanes, where he belonged to two local flying clubs. He enjoyed making lampshades out of stained glass and carving decoys. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and really enjoyed a good game of pool, golf and Texas Holdem.
Paul was preceded in death by brother, Edwin, Norris and his son, Paul Brennegan. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; sons, Richard"Ernie" (Natalie), David (Veronica) of MD and Chris (Donna) of NC. His grandchildren include Ev (Jeremy), Katie, Carly, Sara, Richard, Thomas, Andrew and Mark.
A celebration life will be held at Trinity United Methodist church, 2221 NE Savannah Road Jensen Beach , FL 34957 on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's name to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Treasure Coast Hospice of Fort Pierce, FL.
