Mary Jane McCoy

Mary Jane McCoy (Brown) passed peacefully in her sleep March 5, 2022, at her home in Port St Lucie, Florida, where she live with her husband, Robert Allen McCoy and friend of 60+ years and eldest son Michael William McCoy. They relocated from their beautiful neighborhood and retirement home of 18 years, Magnolia Greens, a golfing community in Leland, North Carolina to be with their second son Patrick Allen McCoy and Rhamna Johnston of Palm Beach Gardens. She was overjoyed to be able to see both her sons frequently.

“Janey” was born and raised in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, where she met Robert in high school and married in 1962. After time in the Philippines where Robert was stationed and Michael was born they returned to Upper Marlboro where they spent 37 years. Patrick Allen McCoy was born in Bethesda, Maryland and Brian Lee McCoy was born in Cheverly, Maryland. After Brian’s birth, Janey returned to the University of Maryland to receive her BS in education, she then started her 26 year career at the Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland, where Robert worked on the same campus at NOAA’s Satellite Operations and Control Center. They retired together in 2002 and moved to Leland, North Carolina where they designed and built their dream home. 18 years of bliss followed as they became active members of the Bacilli Shrine of Saint Mary, Wilmington, North Carolina were encountered and became members of the Marriage Encounter Circle family of Wilmington. Janey was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with the Steel Magnolia’s Ladies golf group. She and Robert took dance lessons to better enjoy all the good times at the clubhouse and the covid necessitated concerts in the cul-de-sac. She spent happy times annually at Massanutten, VA and the OBX of NC with our great friends.

Janey, at the time of her passing, was a participant in an Alzheimer research project with the E.I. Lily Corp. In lieu of flowers, please support the Alzheimer Association or Alzheimer Research or any worthy charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
