Joseph was born in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Joseph Scalf Sr and Nellie Carney Scalf.
Before relocating to Florida 8 years ago; Joseph was a resident of Danville, Kentucky & prior Hertford, North Carolina.
Joseph enjoyed helping others and that generous spirit showed through his work as a Baptist minister.
He was a blessing to all those he came into contact with and made many friends along the way.
He also worked as an Optician .
Joseph served our country in the US Navy and was a World War ll Veteran.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening, especially tomatoes and watermelons.
Joseph was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Scalf, his first wife, Evelyn Vickery Scalf, a daughter, Cathy Adams; son in law, Jerry Adams; a granddaughter, Suzanne Story and a grandson, Tony Benton of North Carolina.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Scalf; his children, Lynn Benton (Tony) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Terry Axley (Mike) of Port St Lucie, Florida, Vicki Barrera (Jorge) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Debbie Brown (Randy) of Hertford, North Carolina, along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday April 17 at 10:30 AM at Aycock Funeral home on Bayshore Dr, Port St Lucie. There will also be a service in North Carolina at a later date.
Burial will take place at a later date in Camp Nelson National Cemetary in Jessamine County, Kentucky where his daughter & son in law are buried.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "Dogs & Cats Forever" - 4600 Selvitz Rd - Ft Pierce, Florida
