Alan graduated from Martin County High School in 1964. He greatly enjoyed relationships with many of his classmates throughout his life. Alan and his fellow alumni planned gatherings regularly, especially in their retirement years.
After high school Alan served in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1964-68 during Vietnam. Al was proud of his country and proud to serve it honorably.
Subsequent to his military service, Al worked at Grumman Aerospace in Stuart, FL for a few years before becoming self-employed as a commercial beekeeper. Alan Schaefer had hundreds of hives scattered throughout the Treasure Coast and surrounding areas from the 1970s to the early 1990s. He was the first president of the Martin County Beekeepers Association, 1979-80. Throughout the 1990s and on, Alan worked at Florida nuclear power plants.
Alan had many hobbies and interests, such as fishing, hunting, archery, flying RC airplanes, Do-It-Yourself projects and having all-you-can-eat family crab and shrimp boils as often as possible. He was a life-long car enthusiast who enjoyed drag racing and souped-up motors.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents August and Dorothy Schaefer, his brother Richard and his treasured Jeannie--wife of 45 years.
He is survived by his dearly beloved daughters Susan Lee and Stacey Ann Schaefer; grandchildren Kristin Ginter, Kristopher Herst and Breanna Michel; and great-grandson Bradley Fillmore.
Alan will be dearly missed.
