Salvatore F. Romano Jr., 76, of Port Orange, FL, passed away at home on July 29, 2024. Better known as Sam to friends and loved ones, he was born in Auburn, NY, to Salvatore and Lena Romano, and was raised in Mattydale, NY.
Sam lived life to the fullest, and touched so many lives. Serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, Sam was an infantryman and dog handler. From Vietnam to owning a pizza shop (the best pizza ever), to president of Mattydale Little league baseball. He was the best coach and father many kids had. Additionally, Sam worked for Crouse Hinds as a CNC Machinist for 25 years, before moving to Port Orange, Florida, in 1994 and continuing his CNC machine career with John Crane. Upon his semi-retirement, he drove for Med One shuttle and was a member of the Port Orange VFW.
Sunday dinner, holidays, and family were the most important to him – and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family. We were all so blessed to be part of his life. He loved the Miami Dolphins, NASCAR, and the Yankees. He golfed probably most of the courses on the East Coast and a few on the West Coast too, with his friends, he loved it. He also loved a good clam bake, BBQ, but definitely chicken wings and a beer at Zebb's or South Turn.
Sam was the strongest man, our hero, our ROCK! Rest in peace. We will miss you immensely, and we are grateful you are at peace. We LOVE you so much.
Sam will forever be remembered by his wife, Judith (Judy) Romano; son, David and his wife Christina and their children Shayne Middleton, Davin , Ryan ,Nathan, and Sawyer Romano; daughter, Stacey Romano, her children Joshua Romano-Post, Alyssa Flesher, great-grandchildren Jay'Don Post, Izabella and Izaiah Campfield;along with his brothers, Michael (wife Susan) and Raymond (wife Patty) Romano and several nieces and nephews that adored him.
Sam will be laid to rest in New York at Bath National Cemetery with military honors Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held later that same day beginning at 4 p.m. at the family residence, 2371 Canal Road, Camillus, NY 13031.
