Ron graduated from Colorado A&M University in 1955 (now Colorado State). He played on the university’s basketball team that won the conference championship his junior year. On November 8, 1958 he married Irene Reardon. They were married for 41 years before Irene passed away in 2000. He honorably served his country as a career Air Force pilot, including a tour of duty in Vietnam; he retired from active duty in 1977. As a second career, Ron taught aviation sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was a driving force to establish the Embry-Riddle basketball program in 1988 and served as the team’s first basketball coach. Ron is survived by six of his seven children: Michael Caylor, Patrick Caylor, Donna Mallet, Ronald Caylor, Maureen Kealhofer, and Daniel Caylor as well as 20 grandchildren. His daughter, Brenda Phillips, predeceased him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange at 8:30AM on Friday, August 9th.
