Mary Ann (Seib) Veazey, 85, was born to Mary E. and Joseph W Seib on February 28, 1931 in Poseyville, Indiana, a “Hoosier” farm girl who soon learned the ways of hard work. There were none of today’s young adult problems: where can we go and what can we do? A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 8:30 A.M. The family will receive friends and family after Mass at the Church. Mary Ann graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Evansville, Indiana where she worked for three years before joining the USAF Nurse Corps in 1955. She worked for four years in Obstetrics and the Operating Room on Long Island, New York and Wiesbaden, Germany at the 500 bed, 7100th AF Hospital. There she met her husband-to-be, who was serving his two years in the AF as a dentist. They married a year later in a civil and Catholic ceremony in Basel, Switzerland in April of 1958. In November, both were discharged from the AF to return to West Virginia where Richard set up his dental practice of 35 years and Mary Ann reared three sons. When the boys were in Junior High School, Mary Ann returned to nursing at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston in the OR and PACU (post anesthesia) for 22 years until her retirement in 1994, at which time they moved to Port Orange, Florida. Mary Ann continued her nursing career in Daytona Beach until the age of 72. She and Richard enjoyed several cruises, including three back to Europe and what a change that was from the 1950's still war torn Germany. Mary Ann enjoyed many crafts, movies and was active in Our Lady of Hope Liturgical Arts, and Festive, and Resurrection Choirs. She will also be remembered for her beautiful stitchery – counted cross stitch and needlepoint throughout their home and many given as gifts, including “Angel of Love” and “Angel of the Sea” at Our Lady of Hope.
Pre-deceased by her son Louis A. Veazey at age 33, brother Carroll J. Seib of New Orleans, and sister Bertha Seib Bohner of Columbus, Ohio. Left to cherish her memories are husband, Richard S., two sons, Gregory R. Veazey (Mika), grandson Louis T. Veazey, Richard “Mark” Veazey of Port Orange; also surviving is Kenneth L. Seib (Jean) and daughters Amanda and Alicia of Palm Bay, Florida and cousins, nieces, nephews in Indiana.
Memorial Donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler at 3800 Woodbriar Trial, Port Orange, Florida 32129 or Our Lady of Hope, P. O. Box 290216, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
