peacefully at 96 years of age Sunday morning, November 16, 2014. "Henny",
was one of two sisters born in Brooklyn, New York to David and Deborah
Rosen (nee Goldstein). Henrietta was married twice, first to her beloved
husband of 28 years, Abraham Hirshorn, whom she married on Aug. 25, 1940
in New York. Abraham preceded her in death in 1968. They had two sons,
David and Edward (Eddie) Hirshorn. Henny's 2nd marriage, lasting 35 years, was
to James Oliver Cheezum (d: Oct 2009) on March 16, 1974. Henny
instantly became "Mom" to Jim's six children; Michael (d: Jan. 1976), Eileen,
David, Kevin, Diane and Holly. Henny's two marriages (63 years combined!) produced
a large extended family which resulted in 9 marriages, 15 grandchildren and 16 great-
grandchildren. As a young woman growing up in the Big Apple, Henny loved living in New York City.
She enjoyed going to all the theaters and shows that she could attend. Henny
graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a degree in Accounting,
and was the first woman Underwriter hired by Aetna Life Insurance Company.
She worked in the Haddonfield, NJ office until her retirement in the late 1970's.
Her hobbies included playing card games, bowling, cooking, sewing, playing board
games with the family and solving crossword puzzles with her Jim. While a voracious
reader with a particular love of mysteries and science fiction, Henny also enjoyed
watching television. She particularly liked the older movies, crime dramas, mysteries,
Dancing With the Stars and game shows; particularly Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and
Family Feud. Henny and Jim, whom the family called "Mom & Pop", first lived in Turnersville,
and later Williamstown, New Jersey. They moved to Watkinsville, GA in 1979,
before relocating to Holiday, FL in 1982. Health issues played a factor in their relocating to Port Orange in 1997.
Henrietta is survived by a large extended family that she loved dearly as her own
and was loved back as much, if not more. Henny is survived by her children and their
extended families from both marriages. Her sons from her first marriage are David Hirshorn
and wife Jamie, who reside in Sugarland, TX and Eddie Hirshorn and wife
Joyce, who reside in Baltimore, MD. Surviving members from her second marriage include
step-children Eileen and husband Dwight Fugate, Cedar Creek, TX; David and wife Kimberly
Cheezum, Port Orange, FL; Kevin and wife Virginia Cheezum, Fishers, IN.; Diane Moore,
Fayetteville, NC; Holly and husband Swayne Crawford, Watkinsville, GA. Preceding Henny
in death were Michael Cheezum (d:January 1976), and Diane's husband, Mike Moore (d: 2012).
From these unions, 15 grandchildren called her "Granny"; Heather Hirshorn Dadey and
husband James Dadey, Jr, Scranton PA.; Amber Hirshorn Howdeshell and
husband Peter Howdeshell II, Grayson, GA; Mark Carle and partner Joanne, Brooksville FL;
Jeffrey Cheezum and wife Madeleine, Signal Hill CA; Lindsay Cheezum Perry and
husband David Perry,St. Augustine FL; Robert Cheezum and wife Jennifer, Fishers IN;
Michael Cheezum and wife Tracy, Boston MA; Allison Moore, Fayetteville NC;
Doris Jean Moore-Buck and husband Brian Buck, Comer GA; Sarah Crawford, Watkinsville GA;
Melissa Crawford, Covington GA; Rebekkah Crawford, Watkinsville GA; Joshua Brooks Crawford, Hull GA;
Shelli Sparkman and husband Brandon Sparkman, TX; and Paul Logan. Her great-grandchildren
include James and Guinevere Dadey; Trevette Perry; Makayla Cheezum; Kyler and Ella Cheezum; Dimitrius Jr
. and Anthony Lee Tart; Izzabella and Brian Buck, Jr.; Gabriella Crawford; Ameila and Draven Crawford,
Preston and Kylie Caldwell, and Jude Sparkman. The burial service is scheduled for
Monday November 24 at 11AM at Volusia Memorial Park, N Nova Road, Ormond Beach FL,
where "Mom" will join "Pop" (Cheezum) in their final
resting place. A small graveside ceremony will take place for those family members,
friends and well-wishers who are able to attend. A second life celebration will be
held at the same location in late December (date TBD) to commemorate this great lady.
Henrietta's love of her "kids" was only exceeded by the love of her families for her.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to acknowledge the
many facilities and individuals who cared for and loved Henrietta. Countryside Lakes Assisted Living, Port Orange;
The Port Orange Nursing Home and Rehab. Center, Sterling House of Port Orange; and Spruce Creek Assisted
Living Facility, Port Orange. A very heartfelt "Thank You" goes out to Dave and Kim,
as they were our family members in Port Orange who cared for Mom's personal day-to-day
needs. We wish to express our great appreciation to Dr. Henri Nammour and VITAS Hospice
whom have been with Henny, sometimes day in and day out, for the last year of her life.
We, the entire family, are so very grateful for their continuous loving care and support
during Mom's final journey home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be
made to a charity of the donor's choosing.
