Frank J. Allman, 78, a man devoted to his family and his faith, died June 27,2016 at Big Bend Hospice,Tallahassee, Florida.
Frank, a native of Newark,N.J., spent his entire career in the newspaper industry.When he was 17,Frank started with working
with Linotype machines and lead type at the Newark Evening News, working his way up to foreman, quite an accomplishment for someone in his 30's. After
the newspaper went out of business, Frank moved his family to Florida, where he joined the Daytona Beach News-Journal in 1973. He was self-taught in newspaper production and was named head of the newspaper's newly created production department in 1985. Frank shepherded the News Journal's conversion from old fashioned typesetting to computerized production. He retired in 2004. Frank loved to travel and made many trips, visiting England, Israel, Australia, Ireland, Scotland,Italy, Greece, Holland and Alaska with his longtime friend and travelling companion, Father Raymond O'Leary. An avid Florida State
University football fan and season ticket holder,Frank attended home games in Tallahassee for many years. He was a member of the FSU Booster Club. For Frank, his church - Our Lady of Hope in Port Orange - was more than just a place of worship. He served there as president of the Parrish Counsel, director of
adult education, minister for the sick, was a member of Cursillo, the finance committee and served as a Eucharistic minister. First and foremost, Frank was a family man, devoted to his four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Frank Jr. (Beth) and Thomas (Tina), and
daughters, Nancy and Beth; granddaughters Amanda (Chris), Kristen and Reilly; grandsons Mark David (Stephanie), Andrew, Jason and Miles; great granddaughter, Abigail; great grandsons James and Kaleb. Survivors also include two sisters Fran Weir (Joe) and Carol Capman, and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents,Frank and Sadie Allman, and his brother,Robert. Memorial donations may be made to the Our Lady of Hope Outreach, 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL 32129. Visitation is at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home,4815 South Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange,FL on Tuesday, July 5, from 3pm-5pm , with a wake service starting at 7pm and visitation continuing until 9pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at 11 am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL with Father Raymond O'Leary officiating. Reception immediately following the service will be held in the Parrish Hall.
