Ms. Doris Eleanor (Simms) Dorsett Clifton, of Baltimore, Maryland, born on September 20, 1927, in Warwick, Maryland, passed away at age 90 on September 3, 2018 at her home in Port Orange, Florida. She moved to Florida in 1947 with her husband, Hugh Dorsett, Sr. (deceased), and their infant son. She moved to Volusia County in the 1950s as a widow and later remarried.
Doris graduated from Stetson University, DeLand, with a BA in 1967 and an MEd in 1972. She worked in the Chapter One Program with Volusia County Schools as a Teacher and Program Specialist until retiring in 1990. She also worked as a Whole Language Reading Consultant, a Wright Group Representative, and an adjunct professor at Stetson. She was very passionate about wildlife and environmental conservation, women's rights, special needs individuals, Native American rights, and politics. She enjoyed birding, camping & hiking, reading, and photography. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, professional educators organization, and served as the president of Volusia County Reading Council.
Doris is survived by her son, Hugh Dorsett, Jr.; daughter, Nancy Jo Clifton Flynn; sister, Catherine Lewis; grandchildren, Hugh (Jay) Dorsett, Jr., Amanda Bendele-Dorsett, Georgia Dorsett LoCastro, and Caitlin Flynn; and great-grandchildren, Kayla Dorsett and Jackson Bendele-Dorsett.

Friends and family members may attend a celebration of her life (please wear purple) on Thursday, September 20, at 6 p.m. at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, Florida, 32129.
