peacefully on Saturday, February 6th, 2021. Betty was born August 18th, 1925
in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Ralph George Clark and Mildred Clark
(nee’ Smith). Raised also by her beloved maternal grandparents, William “Pop”
Smith and Ethel Iola Smith (nee’ Wood), she grew up in Albemarle, North
Carolina, during the lean years of the Great Depression. Educated in the full
curriculum of the times, including learning Latin, Betty developed a life-long love
of reading and learning. She was also always loved by all who met her, for her
quick wit, fun-loving character and her vast knowledge of almost anything. Her
many interests and hobbies included flower gardening, embroidery, collecting
fossils, arrowheads and pottery shards in nearby fields, polishing semi precious
stones and making jewelry, and raising succulents. Betty loved animals, and
over her life had as pets numerous cats and dogs, as well as a raccoon,
chickens, a Muscovy duck, rabbits, a horse, a de-scented skunk and tropical fish.
All her life, she always said all she wanted was to have children, her youthful
dream was to have 6. Betty was blessed with four sons, which she doted on and
loved until the very end.
Besides her beloved grandparents and mother and father, Betty was
predeceased by her husband Robert Cunningham, and her aunt Inice and uncle
