Robert “Bob” Winfield Chambers, 90, of Port Lavaca passed away September 24, 2020. He was born March 11, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to George Elmer Chambers and Helen Walker McKillop. Bob graduated high school from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. In 1953, he graduated Va. Tech with a BS in mechanical engineering and went to work. In 1956 he joined the U.S. Navy and became a Naval Aviator at Beeville, TX. While there, he met and married his beloved Verna B. Wilks Chambers. They had two sons, John C. and James R. Chambers and spent 50 plus happy years together. In 1959 Bob and Verna left the Navy and Bob went back to work as a mechanical engineer for RCA Corp. Retiring in 1993, Bob and Verna spent the next 14 years in their new, water front retirement home in Olivia, TX, after which they moved to Port Lavaca for medical reasons.
Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Cindy Chambers, 2 grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Chambers and Lindsey Chambers, also many many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Verna Chambers; son, John C. Chambers; and parents.
Mr. Chambers’ family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff at Trinity Shores.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Bob’s life at a later date.
