Maurice G. Wood, 90, of Port Lavaca passed away December 17, 2018. He was born February 21, 1928 in Port Lavaca to Warren L. Wood and Lora Smith Wood. Maurice graduated from Calhoun High School in 1945. He was the Class President and member of the Football Team where he was an all-district tightend under Coach Billy Saylor. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Texas A&M in 1949. He worked as the Calhoun County Clerk for many years then served as the Sheriff and later worked for the State Jail Commission out of Austin until his retirement. He loved spending time hunting, fishing and playing cards. Maurice was a former member of the Port Lavaca Texas Jaycees and was a Presbyterian.
He is survived by his son, Ricky L. Wood (Teresa); daughter, Judith A. Wood (Terri de la Fuente); grandchildren, Brian A. Wood (Ashleigh), Shawna Gale Hartl (Scott) and Kelli Brooke Goff (David); and great-grandchildren, Laynie and Brileigh Wood, Brooke and Fisher Hartl and Clayton and Elli Goff.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cayloma “Polly” Wood; parents; and brothers, Wayne, Alton and Gene Wood.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 11-12 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Wayne Fenske officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.
Pallbearers are Brian Wood, Wesley Mullins, Scott Hartl, David Goff, Clay Brett and Jimmy Hayes.
Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Pustejovsky, Leiland Cox, Tommy Parrott, Butch Housworth, L.C. Gossett and Rusty Wood.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heritage Center or your choice of charity.
