Maria R. Garcia, 87, of Port Lavaca, was born to the late Luz and Pilar Rodriguez on September 3, 1928 in Berclair, Texas. Gabriel sounded his trumpets calling forth his servant and she went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 29, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. Maria was a strong woman of faith who whole heartedly believed in the power of prayer. She brought her children up in the church and was a living example of what a faithful woman of God was. She prayed daily for all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, never missing or forgetting any one of them. Her favorite passage in the Bible was 2 Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose C. Garcia; daughter, Estella Garcia; brothers, Luz, Jesse, Antonio, Alfredo, and Leonardo Rodriguez; and sisters, Guadalupe Mendez and Gloria Govella.
She was survived by her sons, Simon Garcia and his wife Nancy, Joe Garcia Jr., Rudy Garcia, and Joe Lonie Garcia; daughters, Janie Longoria and her husband Gilbert, Lupie Piedra and her husband Jose, Ruth Marroquin and her husband Henry, and Belinda Garcia; brothers, Eusebio and Abel Rodriguez; 21 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home, Port Lavaca. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 1, 2016, 10:00 am at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home followed by the burial at Port Lavaca City Cemetery.
