Margaret graduated from Port Lavaca High School in 1947. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas in 1951 and a Master of Science in 1963. She taught elementary school in the Austwell – Tivoli School District and Calhoun County School District, retiring after 23 years.
Margaret married Edgar Ray Rathkamp on January 18, 1953. They made their home in Tivoli where she taught elementary school and assisted Edgar on their farm and ranch operation. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2006 after 53 years of marriage.
Margaret was a co-organizer and past president of the New Frontier Women’s Federated Club, helped organize and operate the Tivoli Community Library, Camp Fire Girls Leader, member of Refugio County Retired Teachers, Volunteer and past vice president of the Austwell-Tivoli Food Pantry, and member of First Lutheran Church.
Margaret is survived by her two children, James Edgar Rathkamp and his wife Lavonne; and her daughter Norma Edna Rathkamp; and her grandsons Ky Morgan Rathkamp of Houston, Clay Riley Rathkamp and wife Shelbi of Seguin, Jacob Cale Brown of Georgetown, Ethan Ray Brown of Robinson, and Trey Jeffrey Brown of Woodway.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca followed by graveside services at the Tivoli Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jake Brown, Ethan Brown, Trey Brown, Casey Daniel, Ky Rathkamp and Clay Rathkamp.
Memorials may be made to the Tivoli Cemetery Association, First Lutheran Church, or Hospice of South Texas.
