Gary Warren Weaver passed away peacefully in his home on August 13, 2023 at the age of 64. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Patricia (Patty) Weaver, and his children, Justin, Jordan, Jared, Jenna, and Jamie, and his siblings Larry (Jody), Janet, Jean (Gerald), Jerre (Scott), Jacki, and Terry (Buffy). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Jill and Judy.
Gary was born in Port Lavaca on March 18, 1959 to Larry and Alberta Weaver. He spent his life in Port Lavaca, where he impacted many community members through his kindness, humor, generosity, and service to the community. While attending high school, Gary took on a larger role in running the family convenience store, when his father’s health began to fail. Gary was the friendly face behind the counter who treated everyone the same, from the mayor to an out-of-town visitor. He made sure families didn’t go hungry by offering credit to customers when times were hard - a Christian practice he inherited from his father.
During the downturn of the economy in the late 90’s, he pursued a second career with Calhoun County EMS. Beginning as an EMT and ending as a paramedic, he remained for 15 years, until his illness forced him into early retirement. Near the end of his career, he taught several EMT courses for DOW Chemical. His love of learning made him a natural teacher. He was often called to help guide the new hires, showing them the ropes and shortcuts. He took great pride in helping them excel. Gary prided himself on being the best paramedic for his patients. His calming presence and plethora of knowledge led him to become a skilled paramedic in the community.
As much as Gary loved his work, his family and home life always came first. Gary enjoyed his freetime at home with his children and wife. When not spending time sleeping through family movie nights or retelling stories to his children, he was working on his beloved motorcycles. Gary made frequent visits to friends and family on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a Harley shirt to match. His love of motorcycles began at an early age, and it was rare for him to not have at least one motorcycle in his garage.
Gary was a mentor and teacher to many. He will be missed by his family, friends, and the Port Lavaca community.
