I always wanted to make it to The Masters in my lifetime, while that didn’t happen, I did make it to My Master on November 12, 2022 and upon entering this enchanting place, there isn’t a golf course on earth that compares to anything I have here. I was born a coal miner’s daughter (before Loretta Lynn made it cool) on September 15, 1936 in Jefferson, PA to Charles “Charlie” and Mildred Novak. I grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from West Bethlehem High School. After Graduation, I enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Ft Benning, GA where I was blessed to meet Walter Dodson. We were married on November 3, 1955 and spent 32 years together until his death in 1987. We owned and operated Dodson Electric in Ganado and I was blessed to turn my hobby into a job when Walter built me a shop in his barn to sell ceramics and yarn and I then opened the fabric shop on Main Street. After his death, I couldn’t sit at home any longer and started working at Ganado Nursing Home as the Activity Director and then later, opened my own Bar, “Charley’s”, in the back of the old Cattleman’s Restaurant in Ganado. I loved my time in Ganado and was blessed with so many close friends that were more family than friend. In 1993 I married Cecil Davidson and we moved to Cuero, where I was able to make more sweet friends and was blessed with the most amazing neighbors, Rodney and Chris Caraway, and Martin. Chris was by my side after I called her Saturday morning and told her something was wrong and was with me as we waited on the ambulance. Unfortunately for everyone, I couldn’t stay. I hated to do that to Chris and to my family, but God had a plan, and after seeing what Heaven had to offer, I was not coming back. The good Lord blessed me with 86 beautiful years, and for that, I am grateful.
I leave behind my daughter and her husband, Linda and Wayne Koop; son, Lynn Dodson and Brenda Kovar Shelton; grandchildren, Jamie Kinsfather (Chad), Bobbi Dodson, and Samantha Dodson; great-grandchildren, Colt, Caroline “Cricket”, and Demi Lambert, Gwyneth and Charley Kinsfather; and Damien Dodson.
Man, oh man, what a joy it was to be reunited with those who have gone before me: my parents, husband, siblings, and sweet granddaughter, Stephanie Lambert.
My wish was not to have anyone fuss over me…….people should visit while alive and not wait until we are dead. With that said, remember me as I was. Go play a game of golf; when some good ‘ole country music comes on, get up and dance while you can; sit on your front porch and watch the sunrise; or just cover up with one of the afghans I probably crocheted for you and read a great book and think of me. That is all I can ask for and how I want to be remembered……….as the song says, "in the end, I did it my way".
