She was born June 17, 1927 in Calhoun County to the late Haskell Lee and Mintie Power Bales.
She married William Bennett Morris Sept. 2, 1966 at First Baptist Church in Port Lavaca. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Raymond B. Bales and a son, William Perry Morris.
Betty is survived by her son Wyndel Harvey of Austin, and her daughter Gayle Morris Batts and husband Tom of Cuero. She is also survived by her sister Mildred Lester and husband Kenneth of Hallettsville. She is further survived by grandchildren Christopher Harvey of Corolla, North Carolina; William Brenden Morris and wife Kimberly of Victoria; Tom Jr. and Stacy Stokes Batts of San Marcos; Brian David and Truly Foreman Batts of Port Lavaca; Matthew Wayne and Vanessa Evans Batts of San Antonio and great-grandchildren Marshal Theron Batts, Leeland Stokes Batts, Brylee M'Layne Batts, Braydon Thomas Batts and Kynlee Elizabeth Morris, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Betty worked for the Calhoun County Independent School District, retiring after 36 years of service. After Bill's retirement she was bookkeeper for Bill's business, BHB Machine Works, until 2005. Betty enjoyed dancing, country music, baking... her specialty was strawberry cake, entertaining her family and friends, and tending her beautiful yard, flowers, and gardening.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca and while she was healthy, served faithfully each Sunday, recording the Sunday School attendance records for over 30 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Betty's family thanks her cousin Florene Young, special friends Frankie and Leonard Dreymala, the entire staff and caregivers at the Trinity Shores Lighthouse and Hospice of South Texas caregivers for their love, assistance, and support.
Pallbearers are Marshal Batts, Christopher Harvey, Ken Lester, Kevan Lester, Todd Lester and Brenden Morris. Honorary pallbearers are Leonard Dreymala, Kenneth Lester, Virgil Martin, Jim Story, and Harold Young.
Visitation is Thursday June 11, 2015 at The First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The funeral service is Thursday, June 11, 2015 at The First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca starting at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Adam Lazarine officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held at Port Lavaca Cemetery, 624 S Trinity St, Port Lavaca.
