Bernice Irene Neill Matson departed this life Thursday, January 31, 2019. She was born Sunday, December 26, 1920 in Port Lavaca to James Culbertson Neill and Zella Clarissa Osburn Neill. She was a farmers daughter and married a farmer, Raymon Harold Matson on January 11, 1938. Bernice did many things in her life time such as working on the farm, selling Watkins and having house parties. She was a past member of Salem Lutheran Church and current member of First United Methodist in Bloomington where she was very active in many of the church programs, her favorite being the weekly domino games at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 step-mothers, Rose Neill, and Alberta Neill; husband, Raymon Matson; sister, Ruth Halk Williams; half-sister, Roberta Crissman; brother, James Morris Neill; and a son, Charles Raymon Matson Sr.
She is survived by 2 half-brothers, Thurman Neill, Louis Neill; daughter, Judy Anderson; granddaughter, Lynette Darst; grandsons, Charles Matson Jr., Alan Anderson, and Richard Freychineaud; 7 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 8, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Bloomington with Pastor Paul Beard officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.
