September 5, 2016. Abel P. Rodriguez left this world to join loved ones in eternal rest. Those who knew him best have no doubt he tapped danced his way into heaven expressing his favorite quote “Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God Almighty I’m Free at Last!”
Abel served his country during the Korean Conflict as a radar specialist in the Army-Air Force and worked in retail in Dallas for over forty years before relocating to Port Lavaca to be near family after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1995.
He spent his final year of life in the personal care of Martha Espinoza and her staff at Angel Arms Manor in Victoria, TX where he received loving care.
Nephews and Nieces were at his bedside as he peacefully left this earth.
He is survived by his brother, Eusevio Rodriguez Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luz and Pilar Rodriguez; sisters, Guadalupe Mendez, Gloria Govella, Maria R. Garcia and brothers, Luz Rodriguez, Jesse Rodriguez, Antonio Rodriguez, Fred Rodriguez and Leonardo Rodriguez.
A time of visitation will be held Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be Friday, September 9, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the Calhoun County Veterans Joint Honor Guard.
Pallbearers are Ellis Massey, Ruben Garza, Eris Saenz, Jeremiah Garcia, Marcus Saenz, Zachary Garcia, Jo Jo Mendez and Rolando Rodriguez.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
