Neil Patrick McKenna left this world surrounded by his family at the age of 70 on Friday, August 18, 2018 after a long illness. Neil was raised in Williston Park, New York. He was a Marine Corps veteran and achieved the rank of Sergeant while serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Water District of Great Neck North after forty years of service. During that time he served as union president.
He is survived by his wife of forty five years, Teresa (nee Carr), his daughter Kerri Anne and his son Patrick. He is deeply missed by his sister Peggy Brennan, his brother Ed, his sister in laws Reggie McKenna and Joyce Carr, his nephews John and Kevin Brennan, Ed McKenna Jr (Dana), Shaun Carr (Brooke) and his niece Virginia Garrity (Hugh). In addition, he is missed by his grand-nieces Kathleen Brennan and Sarah Garrity, and his grand-nephews Kevin, Pierce and Ryan Brennan, Asher and Ezra Carr, and Price McKenna. He was pre-deceased by his parents Ellen and Ed McKenna and his brothers in law, John Brennan and Frank Carr.
A viewing will be held at the O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 4839 Nesconset Hwy, Port Jefferson Station, New York on Tuesday August 21st from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. A mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 22nd at 11:15 AM at St. Louis Montfort R.C. Church, 75 New York Ave, Sound Beach, New York. Interment will be on Friday, August 24th at Calverton National Cemetery.
The family is forever grateful to the medical staffs at Letterkenny University Hospital, County Donegal, Ireland and John T. Mather and St. Charles Hospitals in Port Jefferson, New York for the wonderful care they provided Neil during his long ordeal.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the ICU Units at the above hospitals are encouraged.
