John was born on January 22, 1937 in Manhattan, New York to John and Elizabeth Hogan. He met the love of his life, Helen T. Englert in 1959 and they married in 1960. In the following years their love grew abound, with three children, six grandchildren, and even great grandchildren.

Jr. Cherished grandfather of Nichole Woode, Megan Marie Pollard, Michael John Pollard and his wife, Lauren, Taylor Elizabeth Nixon, Madison Rose Nelson and her husband, Gabriel Nelson and Olivia Shaye Nixon. Adored great grandfather of Trevor & Jordan Aguirre, Brandon Woode, Cameron & Chloe Ginebra, Brody, Henley & Kaceyn Pollard and the late Korra Rose Widrig. Dear brother of Robert P. and his wife Sandra and the late MaryJean Hyde.
A visitation for John will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Funeral Mass on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Infant Jesus RC Church, 110 Myrtle Ave, Port Jefferson, New York 11777. Interment with Marine Honors to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, New York 11933.
A Marine Corp veteran, and member of the American Legion, it could be said that John had a patriotic streak. John was an avid reader, devouring books of many genres, as well as the daily crossword puzzle. John was a fan of all sports, particularly golf, the NY Yankees, and NY Giants. He made a life-long career out of his position at the Long Island Railroad before retiring, whereupon he was able to allocate his free time to traveling and his loved ones.
