Jane Kearns-Landow passed away on March 11th, 2024. She is survived by her children, Paul and wife, Linda; son, Matthew, and daughter, Jenevieve. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda, Leanne and Matthew.
Jane, known as “Jane-o” or “GranJane” by her grandchildren was the most genuine, authentic and generous individuals in the world. She had such a vitality for life and never took herself too seriously. Her sense of resilience throughout her life was extraordinarily admirable.
Jane always entered a room with positivity and humor, whether she meant to be funny or not. Her nickname in her earlier years was “Calamity Jane.”
Following college, Jane became a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. She loved her career in Nursing. It was clear early in her adulthood that compassion, empathy and kindness were her calling in life.
She then married Walter Kearns Jr. and raised her three children; Paul, Matthew and Jenevieve. Never one to rest on her laurels; she would join any and every organization. PTA, 4-H, religious education, etc.
Her eccentricity and ability to see the best qualities in everyone she ever met became her reputation as her children got older with their friends. Her joy of life was evident every day until she passed.
Later in life, although she and Walter divorced, they were best friends for life. Getting together a couple of times a week for dinner with their children and grandchildren. Also, celebrating every holiday and birthday together.
She continued her education in her fifties, working towards a Masters in Biochemical Nutrition. She was always passionate about healthy living, nutrition and exercise.
Jane then married Irwin Landow. They travelled the world, were part of a ski group, played bridge weekly, season tickets at Lincoln Center for opera and ballet, and went dancing frequently. She definitely was not the traditional “grandma” which was exactly who she was. Jane was never a traditionalist in any way.
She loved yoga and taught for over 25 years into her eighties. In her 20’s, she raced cars and skydived.
Jane had a very special relationship with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
As much as she will be missed, there is comfort in that she will be reunited with her mother. Her mother passed away when Jane was seven. As well as many of her loved ones including; ,Walter, Irwin, her brother Edward, many relatives and friends.
Jane, you will always be in our hearts. Every time we laugh, we’ll look up to heaven and say “Jane-O!!!”
