Carol L. Wickel, age 82, of Port Jefferson Station, New York passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Devoted wife of Joseph A. Wickel Sr. for nearly sixty-two idyllic years. Together, they raised three children, Joseph Jr. (Elizabeth), Lori Anne (Frank), and Jeanne Marie. Proud grandmother of Joseph III, Nicholas, Lucas, and Maya.
Carol and her husband, Joe, were inseparable since their marriage in 1962, which was the epitome of an almost perfect marriage. They built their family on a strong foundation of love, support, and compassion. Carol was a good listener, but could also provide advice to her loved ones when they needed it. Nurturing others and selflessness were second nature to Carol, no matter who you were.
Carol would spend her free time reading, swimming and crocheting. She would donate crocheted lap pads to local nursing homes, and crocheted a blanket for the birth of each of her grandchildren. Carol worked for the Eastern Suffolk BOCES program for over 20 years with special needs children; her work there was very important to her. After retiring, Carol continued her altruistic work, by volunteering at a food bank at a local church in Maine.
Carol and her husband, Joe, loved the serenity of the family lake house in Maine during the summer months, and were snowbirds during the winter months in Naples, Florida.
The legacy Carol leaves behind is one of love, compassion, kindness, and devotion to her husband and family.
A visitation for Carol will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Hwy, Port Jefferson Station, New York 11776. Funeral Mass on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Gerard Majella R.C. Church, 300 Terryville Rd, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Interment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury NY 11590.
The family welcomes donations to Good Shepherd Hospice or Hope House Ministries as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers.
