Adolfo A. Velarde, 83, of Coram, NY, passed away on November 20, 2024, after a courageous 18-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on February 3, 1941, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Adolfo lived a life full of love, resilience, and adventure.
In 1970, Adolfo and his beloved wife Ofelia came to the United States on their honeymoon and decided to make it their home. Together, they built a life rich in love and family, celebrating 54 beautiful years of marriage. Ofelia was always his top priority, and their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Adolfo was the devoted father of Jennifer Scharf and her husband Brian, and the cherished grandfather of Aidan and Addison, who brought endless joy to his life. He was also a loving brother to Henry (Cruz Elena), Olivia Ventura, Xavier (Mary), and the late Jaime. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A passionate traveler, Adolfo and Ofelia explored the world together, sharing countless adventures that reflected their zest for life. A man of great intellect, he was an avid reader, a fan of the History Channel, and deeply educated on a variety of topics. His hands were never idle; as a skilled handyman, there was nothing he couldn’t fix around the house.
Adolfo took great pride in his household chores, excelling at making the bed and ironing with perfectionist care. He was full of life, adored his family, and treasured every moment spent with them.
Adolfo's strength, warmth, and love leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A celebration of Adolfo’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 1-4 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Prayer service at 3:30 PM at the funeral home.
