Judith Frances (Ash) Marcus, of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Marcus; father, John Ash; mother, Anna Ash; sisters: Jean Ash (husband John), Nancy Sloan (husband Robert), and Shirley Ash; brothers: John Ash, James Ash, Robert Ash (wife Joanne); and Fran Ash; and her niece and goddaughter, Karen O’Neill.
She is survived by her son, Aaron Marcus (wife Nicole); daughter, Nicole King (husband Joe); grandchildren: Jordan, Ryan, Sydney, and Griffin King, and many nieces and nephews.
Judy loved her children with everything she had; they were her best friends, and she was their protector for most of her life. Nicole said if she tried to include every wonderful memory she had with her mom, you’d be reading until next week. Just know Nicole always felt like the luckiest girl in the world with Judy as her mom. She also loved her son in law and daughter in law. She would always lovingly refer to Joe as her “favorite son in law”, despite him being her only one, and she had a particularly close bond with her daughter in law, Nicole, who she always thought of as a second daughter.
Judy also loved her grandchildren more than anything, as they did her, and she spent many hours talking about them. Growing up their favorite place was grandma’s house, where the Kings would spend countless days traveling from PA just to swim in Gram’s pool or just hang out and have fun. Gram Judy would always say she loved to see them coming, but also enjoyed seeing them go (kiddingly, of course).
She loved all animals and always had full feeders for the birds and peanuts for the squirrels at her house in Chenango Bridge.
Judy was one of a kind. Aside from being kind and exceedingly generous, she had a wit and sense of humor like no other. To know Judy was to love her. Renowned for her “knuckle sandwiches”, if you were threatened with one, you were a favorite; just ask the staff at St. Louise Manor whom she loved dearly for nearly 10 years. They were always plotting with her to rob a bank and get to a casino to play her favorite Flaming 7’s. They always made sure she had an abundance of word search books and fresh pens and made her feel like she was at home. The family is beyond grateful for all of them.
Well known for her baked goods, everyone especially loved her kolachkis and nut rolls at holiday time, and none of Aaron’s birthday celebrations were ever complete without one of her famous blueberry pies.
Judy enjoyed going to her time share in Las Vegas. She never met a casino she didn’t like, which was another thing she bonded with her son in law over. One of her favorite moments was winning the jackpot on a one-armed bandit at Foxwoods. She was always the life of the party and never shied away from knocking a few back with her friends or her favorite drinking buddy, her son. Some of her favorite memories were from working at the Visions Federal Credit Union, where the job never felt like work because of all the great friends she made there and the laughs they would have.
Judy brought a light to the world and it’s slightly dimmer without her. She will be forever missed. We know she is in heaven with her husband, parents, siblings, and her best friend from birth, Diana Strain, with whom she shared a lifetime of fun memories. Growing up we loved hearing about their crazy adventures. She loved all her nieces and nephews, and we never needed an excuse to get together. Mom made every holiday fun, and her traditions will continue to be passed down (particularly, her many recipes, whom she entrusted to her daughter and confidante, Nicole).
Judy was a devout Roman Catholic who never missed Mass. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, 37 Fayette Street, Binghamton, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family would invite donations to be made to the Broome County Dog Shelter, 110 Cutler Pond Road, Binghamton, NY 13905.
