

courageous battle with lymphoma. James was born in Binghamton, NY on October 2, 1951
to Nelson and Cleon Canfield. He was a graduate of Windsor High School and retired
from NYSDOT after many years of service. He was predeceased by his wife and best
friend Susan, his parents, his in-laws, and sisters Sandra and Cynthia.
He leaves behind his brother Paul Canfield and wife Peris, his brother-in-law Curtis
Loeffler and wife Terrie, sister-in-law Judy Marcyan and husband Paul, and
nieces and nephews Justin, Amanda & Michael Canfield and Renee Marcyan.
James loved his family, being outdoors, tending to his many flower beds, and watching
the wildlife that passed through his yard. He was a devoted cat dad to Tuxedo and
Ghost. His generosity and sense of humor will always be remembered.
His family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Guthrie
Sayre, PA for their unwavering care, support, and guidance over the past several
weeks.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, 12:00 noon at the Wm. R.
Chase Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY. The family will receive
friends from 10:30 until the time of service, with Pastor Scott Ferguson officiating.
A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family kindly
asks to please consider a donation to Karyn Grant-Kelley, c/o Robin Hoods Lost and
Forgotten Felines, 5250 State Rt. 90N, Cayuga, NY 13034 to honor James' memory.
