Frank Swain Jr. of Port Crane 88, Born in Rome, NY August 19, 1927, died in Binghamton on December 30, 2015. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Betty Swain in 1984. Frank is survived by his longtime companion, Dorothy R. Heier of Port Crane; sons, James J. Swain of Binghamton, Leland R. & Janice Swain; and their children, Ryan and Caitlin all of Lynchburg, VA., F. Edwin Swain of Columbia, S.C. Frank Swain Jr. was born and raised in Rome, NY. He attended the missionary Training Institute, which became Nyack Missionary College, and is currently Nyack College. He worked there as a cook in the kitchen while attending college from 1949-1951. He enrolled in the U.S. Army on April 18, 1951. Frank served in the U.S. Army from April 18, 1951 to March 26, 1953. He was stationed in France and served as a chaplain's assistant. On March 26, 1953, after attaining the rank of Sargent, he returned to the United States and was in Ready Reserve (Active Status) until he was Honorably Discharged, March 26, 1958. On August 4, 1951 he married Betty E. Wilson from Morgantown, West Virginia, who also attended the college. Upon his return from the U.S. Army, he assumed the position of Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at the Nyack Missionary College, Nyack, NY. He was promoted to Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, and held that position until 1965. Mr. Swain went to work for Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. as an appliance salesperson in their store. He spent several years selling gas conversion burners for oil fired boilers as the utility gas system expanded. He also served as area manager for the Towns of Orangetown and Clarkstown, and served as Manager of Conversion Services before his retirement in 1990. He Moved to Port Crane, NY in 1990 with his son, James. Frank attended the First Baptist Church of Port Crane and more recently Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church. A Funeral service will be held at the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY 13901 on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 7:00 PM with Military Honors to follow, Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, NY on Friday in a private ceremony. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the time of service.
