Dorothy Ann (Hotaling) Smith, age 72, passed away June 28th, 2024 in the presence of her loving family after complications from a liver transplant. She is survived by her son Scott Smith, daughter Brittany Smith, and long-time partner Jerry Brown. She was the loving Nana of several grandkids and great-grandkids. She is also survived by sisters Diane Binder and Susan Bowman and brothers LeRoy and John W. Bowman, nephew Harold Battle Jr.; half siblings Roger Holly, Debbie Johnson and John H. Bowman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born in Binghamton December 31, 1951. She was adopted in 1959 by family members Earl and Florence Hotaling joining with sister Diane. She graduated from Binghamton High School and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in December 2017. She drove school bus for many years, and during her retirement years worked as a school guard.
She loved spending time with family, travelling, puzzles, and crafting – especially diamond art. In her younger years she was involved with HAM radio (N2DRH) and her children’s activities. She loved to bake and was particularly known for her Christmas cookies.
She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents Earl and Florance Hotaling, biological parents Beverly Holly (Campbell-Bowman) and LeRoy Bowman, sister Jane McNett, nephew Dwayne Battle, niece Crystal Battle, former husband Gerald Smith, extended family member George Holly.
The family will receive friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 10-11AM. Funeral Services will follow at 11AM. Burial will be in the Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
