Antonio Mattia, 86, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at Binghamton General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Venerina Mattia, Binghamton; his son and daughter-in-law, Sergio and Melinda Mattia, Newark Valley; his daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Joseph Fleury, Vestal; three grandchildren, Joseph A. Fleury, Jessica Mattia and Sergio Mattia; three sisters and their families, Connie Serafini, Maria and Giulio DeRitis, all of Binghamton; and Palmina Mattia of Italy; along with several nieces and nephews both here and in Italy. Antonio came to the USA in 1956. He was a retired employee of Dellapenna Construction Co. He enjoyed gardening, making wine and telling stories of the Old Country at the table at Sunday dinners and on Holidays. He also loved to share a nice glass of homemade wine with his two grandsons and share a nice bowl of homemade pasta with his granddaughter. A special thank you to Dr. Victoria Mirza and the entire staff on the 6th floor of Binghamton General Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion they gave to Antonio. Additional thanks to Dr. Jennifer Malossi, Dr. Domingo Jimenez, Kendra and the entire staff of Binghamton Family Care for all the years of caring and support. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, January 25, 2013 at 9:30 AM in St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY Thursday from 5 – 7 PM.
