Alfredo Stenta “Papa, Ciocio”, 93 passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Filomena Stenta of Italy; sister, Maria Giuseppe Marcello; brothers, Angelo, Nicola, Domenico and Corridino Stenta. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 64 years, Emilia (Mimi) Stenta, Binghamton; his caring children, John Stento; Aquilino and Lilliana Stenta; Maria and Marty Scouvert; loving grandchildren, Jon Stento; Lino and Tracy Stenta; Jason Stenta and fiancée Marriana; Justin Stenta; Marco Scouvert and Niko Scouvert; precious great grandchildren, Alannah and Mariano Stenta; sister-in-law, Arianella Stenta; many nieces, nephews and cousins; Angels, April White and Krista Gould who were his special caregivers. Alfredo survived the hardships of WW II in Italy. He worked his wife’s family farm, and in the early 50’s he ventured to Venezuela to further provide for his wife and 3 children back in Italy. In 1960, he moved his family to Binghamton, where he worked construction for many years, and took great pride in his concrete finish work. Alfredo was a great provider and was a dedicated and loving man. He will be remembered for his amazing gardening famous roast “porchetta” pig, outstanding homemade wine and his homemade “hottest of hot” peppers which he would hand out for weddings and family gatherings. Alfredo was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and the Men’s Abruzzee Social Club. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and compassion shown to their father by the staff at the Willow Point Nursing Home.
Due to Holy Week, a Funeral Liturgy will be conducted Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 8:45 AM at the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY and continue at 9:30 AM in St. Mary of the Assumption Church where a Funeral Liturgy will be offered. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco & Son Funeral Home Wednesday from 4-7 PM. The men of the Abruzzee Club will meet at 6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
