Steve Goldrick, gracefully winged his flight to the spiritual realm on the evening of Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. With heavy hearts we remember and celebrate the remarkable life of our beloved Steve. He was not just a member of our family but a spiritual pillar that held us all together with love, wisdom, and profound faith. Steve's journey on this earthly plane was not just a mere existence; it was an extraordinary testament to a life dedicated to the Baha'i Faith, a life that touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Oakville, Ontario in 1947, Steve was the sixth of 11 children, and from an early age, he demonstrated a vibrant spirit, exercising his creativity and exploring the world around him. His infectious laughter echoed through the halls of his childhood home as he played and triumphed in his favorite games, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his siblings.
Life presented challenges that led Steve to journey away from home at the tender age of 16. Undeterred, he faced life’s adversities with resilience, going on to create a loving family, thrive in his professional endeavors, nurture his spiritual life, and become an invaluable member of his community.
Almost five decades ago, at the age of 19, Steve embarked on a transformative journey by embracing the Baha'i Faith. This marked the commencement of a life devoted to serving humanity. From pioneering activities in Nova Scotia and Iceland to imparting wisdom through children's classes in the lower mainland, his dedication extended to serving on numerous local Spiritual Assemblies. His life became a shining example of unwavering faith, boundless love to each and all, and an enduring legacy of selfless service. He wasn't just dedicated; he was a teacher, a guide, and a beacon of light for those seeking spiritual enlightenment.
Steve's exceptional spiritual perception was another facet of his character that left an indelible mark on those around him. His understanding of the Baha'i teachings was not confined to words; it was a living, breathing manifestation in his actions, his compassion, and his unwavering commitment to the principles of unity and love.
For three decades, Steve dedicated his professional life as an insurance professional at Co-operators, where he built lasting relationships with clients by embodying authenticity and trustworthiness. His career was not just a job; it was a form of worship to God and service to others, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
One of the many qualities that endeared Steve to us all was his delightful sense of humor. In the face of life's challenges, he could effortlessly weave laughter into the fabric of our lives, reminding us that joy is an integral part of the human experience. His laughter echoed not just in the walls of his home but resonated in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to be touched by his presence.
But perhaps what defined Steve most profoundly was his all-embracing love. He had a heart that knew no bounds, a heart that welcomed everyone with open arms, regardless of background, beliefs, or circumstances. Steve's love was not limited to words; it was a force that could be felt, a warmth that enveloped all who crossed his path.
As a devoted servant of the Baha'i Faith, Steve's life was a tapestry of service, kindness, and radiant love. He selflessly dedicated himself to the betterment of humanity, embodying the principles of unity, equality, and justice that lie at the heart of the Baha'i teachings.
In the words of Abdul-Baha, “let your heart burn with loving kindness for all who may cross your path,” Steve embodied this every day of his life. There were no limits to his generosity, his hospitality, his inclusiveness, and the warmth he showed to friends and strangers alike.
Today, we remember Steve as a loving husband to Nahid, with whom he embarked on countless adventures and travels. His legacy lives on through his children, Majeed, Vafa, Navid, and Pamela, and his cherished grandchildren Matias, Isabella, Alexander, Olivia, and Sena. In the hearts of his siblings, Billy, Ruth, Joyce, Doris, Barbie, and Tim, his memory remains a source of inspiration and warmth. As we remember Steve today, let us also reflect on the profound impact he had on our lives and the legacy of love and service that he leaves behind. His manifold exceptional personal qualities, his kindness, and his radiant heart will continue to inspire us to strive for a better world, just as he did throughout his remarkable journey.
As we bid farewell to this extraordinary soul, we carry forward the torch of his legacy. Let us remember the laughter he shared, the love he bestowed, and the indomitable spirit that defined his journey in this world.
May Steve's soul continue to soar to new heights in the realm beyond, and may his memory be a guiding light, inspiring us all to live with the same authenticity, resilience, unwavering faith, and love that he so beautifully exemplified throughout his life.
