It is with deep sadness we announce that Ira Edwin Richards passed away peacefully, at the age of 62, on November 27, 2024, in Vancouver, B.C. He was born on April 22, 1962, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents John and Erica Richards.
Ira leaves to mourn his passing, his siblings: Edward, Sydney, Candy (Marv), Dawn (Duane) and Todd (Laurie), his two sons Dillin (Morgan), Austin (Holly), along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his parents John and Erica and his sister Brenda.
Growing up in a military family, Ira experienced life in various places in Canada and briefly pursued a career in the Navy, where he traveled the world extensively. In his later years he struggled with alcoholism and faced many challenges. His life was simple yet complex. He accepted his life and remained kind-hearted and funny. Known for his sense of humour, Ira often shared jokes and fun facts, bringing smiles to those around him. Most importantly, he knew how to laugh at himself, and loved playing practical jokes on family and friends. Ira took an active interest in current events, and he loved sports, especially hockey which he played avidly as a goalie in his younger years.
Despite his challenges, Ira also dedicated his life to giving back to his community. He regularly volunteered at homeless shelters and kitchens. Ira loved to cook breakfast for those less fortunate, despite his lack of ability to taste food. Ira had a way of connecting with people from all walks of life and formed lasting friendships wherever he went.
He was known for his beautiful smile and the twinkle in his eyes, which reflected the depth of his spirit and love. We are all grateful for the time we had with Ira and will cherish the memories of his humour, compassion, and the joy he brought to our lives. Rest in peace Ira.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver, B.C. where he volunteered, or the homeless charity of your choice.
