It is with heavy hearts and tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad & Papa. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and generosity. Born Donald Charles Harris on November 15th, 1933 in Berwyn, Alberta to Percy & Grace Harris. Don is predeceased by his 4 siblings, Glen, Orville, Ken and Albert. Don came to B.C. as a young man and married Irene and they had 4 children together. Don and Irene raised their family in Anmore on a farm with cows, pigs, chickens and horses. Don was a lover of animals and nature and enjoyed time outdoors. Don started a career in the grain industry and worked his way up to become part of the design and innovation in the building of the largest grain terminal on the west coast, Prince Rupert Grain, which opened in 1984. Don was the Terminal Manager until his retirement.
Always an innovator, Don enjoyed projects, tinkering, fixing and coming up with designs on better and more efficient ways to accomplish tasks.
Don had a lifetime of accomplishments, yet his greatest source of pride was his cherished family. Don’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and loved ones; his memory will forever be treasured and honoured by his 4 children, Mark, Shannon (Cam), Tim (Rose) and Kim (Dan), 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and his devoted friend Lindsay.
At the moment our father passed he had his family at his side with the song ‘happy trails to you - until we meet again’ playing as a joyful send off to his journey. This song commemorates our anticipation of future reunions with our beloved Dad.
Don had a great life surrounded by love and there are no regrets for Don and his family, except that they all wish they had more time together.
