It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on May 30th of Barbara Mae - a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She celebrated her 90th birthday just before her death. She was predeceased by her parents Richard and Thirell Lipsey and husbands Stan Murphy and Captain Neil Norton. She is survived by her beloved children Bill (Bonnie) Murphy, Sean Murphy, Carol (Tom) Wallace, Kevin (Pam) Murphy, and Thirell (David) Trottier and Neil’s son Derek (Donna) Norton. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Bruce (Tanya), Dale (Andrea) and Mark Murphy, Richard, Alana, and Blake Forbes, Riley and Fraser Trottier, and Dakota Norton, as well as great grandchildren Dakota and Hunter Murphy. She is also survived by her brother Richard Lipsey and sister Thirell Weiss and their families, as well as family in Denmark.
Mom was born and raised in Victoria, attending Oak Bay schools, Victoria College and UBC. She was married to Stan Murphy (Victoria High teacher and Reeve of Saanich) and they raised their children in the family home in Gordon Head. The family spent two years in Africa in the mid 60’s. Mom later married Captain Neil Norton and started a successful teaching career of 15 years at Macaulay Elementary. She and Neil had a wonderful marriage of 40 years and enjoyed many trips during retirement. Mom volunteered for years with the Victoria Performing Arts Festival. Games (bridge, cards, Scrabble) brought her many years of enjoyment. Mom will be remembered for her generosity, patience, curiosity and warm hospitality. Her faith gave her great strength and joy during her 90 years. There will be no service but condolences welcomed below.
