Philip Joseph Cerniglia 74 passed away at his home on Thursday, July 31, 2014 after courageously battling cancer for many years. Phil was born in Ozone Park, NY to Joseph and Mae (Telesewski) Cerniglia.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emily (Piccolo) Cerniglia and two sons, David and wife, Susan (McNichol) Cerniglia and Craig and wife, Elizabeth O'Neal) Cerniglia of Bradenton and her son Ryan.
He leaves behind four grandchildren, Joseph, Alannah, Kristen and Morgan and great granddaughter, Mila.
Phil was always a lover of horses, sharing stories of how he rode Secretariat with all who would listen. He was not only a jockey but later trained thoroughbred race horses all over the northeast winning many races. In1978 he moved to Charlotte County, Fl. with his family to work in the construction field. He will be greatly misses by all who knew him.
Memorial Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Ave. & Easy St. Inurnment will follow in St, Charles Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Southwest Fl.
