Miriam Ruth Adams, age 94, of Punta Gorda, Florida, entered into the arms of Jesus on December 22, 2023 after a very brief decline in health. Born November 26, 1929 in N. Manchester, Indiana to George and Dorothy (Metzger) Hunn, Miriam resided in multiple towns throughout IN, IL, OH, FL, TN and GA. After marrying her high school sweetheart in 1947, she bore 7 children (6 boys and 1 girl) in just over 8 years before she was 27 years old! She worked for decades primarily as an educator and an elementary school psychologist, and also owned and ran businesses in FL alongside her husband. We’ve lost count of the number of moves the family made during those years but it was definitely noteworthy!
Miriam was the embodiment of lifelong learning. Even in her 70’s she surprised us all by returning to college online for a criminal justice degree! There was always a high stack of books beside her chair and this was her favorite way to spend her days; she was also always prepared for Rummicub games and even organized groups of players at her assisted living facility. Miriam also had a musical gift; she loved singing and playing hymns on the organ. Known by almost everyone in her later years as GG, she leaves a legacy of loving and giving, and was great-grandma to family and friends alike. Her devotion to her huge family was paramount and her FB posts remembering all their birthdays was remarkable! She was an example of gratitude; while residing her last few years at Sandhill Gardens ALF, Punta Gorda, whenever she was asked how she was doing, her typical response was, “I feel like a princess in a castle.” GG had a knack for seeing the glass half-full instead of half-empty, no matter the circumstance.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Elmer Adams, sons Carl Stephen Adams and Daniel Keith Adams, granddaughter Megan Elizabeth Adams and great-grandson Keegan James Adams. She is survived by daughter Susan Jane Adams, sons Timothy Wayne Adams (Lois), John Randall Adams (Sue), Joel Douglas Adams (Ann), and Mark Alan Adams, and daughters-in-law Pamela Kay Adams and Joy Lynne Adams. Additionally, she is survived by 45 grandchildren and spouses, 73 great-grandchildren and spouses, with 2 babies on the way, and 5 great-great-grandchildren with 2 babies on the way. The last count of her descendants including spouses and step-grandchildren is 142.
Miriam loved her church. It is her wish that any monetary expressions go to Grace Presbyterian Church, 10548 SW CR769, Lake Suzy, Florida, 34269. The service celebrating her life will be held at Deep Creek Community Church, 1500 Cooper St., Punta Gorda, Florida on January 13 at 3:00 p.m.
