Joseph S. Portillo, a beloved member of the Port Charlotte community, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 18, 2023, at the age of 102. He was born in Trinidad, West Indies and immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1969. Joseph was a devoted husband to his late wife Myra, and together they moved to Port Charlotte, FL upon his retirement from Berkley Cravats in New York City.
Joseph was a faithful member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was deeply involved in the church community and was loved and respected by all who knew him. Joseph's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his work, and his faith.
Joseph was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Portillo, who was a victim of the 9/11 attack in New York City, and his beloved wife Myra, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by his children Zachary, Kirk, Wayne, Wendy, and Pedro; his brothers Stephen Portillo (Trinidad) and Bonifacio Portillo (England); 23 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
Joseph's life was a testament to the importance of family, hard work, and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation for Joseph will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St Charles Borromeo Church, 21505 Augusta Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A graveside service will occur Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Gulf Pines Memorial Park, 2401 Englewood Rd, Englewood, FL 34223.
