Jody was born on January 27th, 1950 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and was the son of late Ted Johnson & Margaret Blevins Brown. He was of the Baptist faith.
Jody was an accomplished musician and songwriter. For over 20 years, he travelled all over the world as the band leader and guitar player for Little David Wilkins, among many other well-known country artists and many Nashville legends. He played on the Grand Ole Opry and the Midnight Jamboree in Nashville, Tennessee with Justin Tubb as the band leader and guitar player for 12 years. He wrote songs that have been recorded by notable artists such as Little David Wilkins, Brenda Lee, Faron Young, Jack Greene, Charlie Louvin and Charlie Pride.
Jody is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Ginger, sons Creg Johnson and Joe Johnson, daughters Keela (Matt) Shoesmith and Amy (Rob) Grant. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren that he loved dearly.
Jody was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Tammy Johnson and his brother Rodney Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at Kays Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Wayne Earnest officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 12:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
