Janet Hollie Coalwell, 73, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away at Brandon General Hospital in Brandon, Florida on the morning of November 3, 2022. She was born on September 24, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri to James and Maudema Blount. Her father James was in the military, so the family traveled with him from base to base. Her father was a casualty of the Korean War when she was one. Her mother Maudema later met and married Emil Knebel and they settled in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Waltrip High School, Houston, Texas in 1967 and studied for two years at Sam Houston State University before entering the job market. Life's adventures led her to Wisconsin and later to the Detroit Lakes, MN area where she met her future husband. They were married on April 9, 1977. They moved to Harvey, ND in 1982 and remained there until they retired and moved to Florida in 2004.
Jan was preceded in death by her father James, her grandmother Edna B, Beeson, her mother Maudema and her stepfather Emil. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Michael, son James (both of Port Charlotte), stepdaughter Tamera (Coalwell) Evans, (Rick), their son Christian of Rescue, CA. Grandchildren, Kaitlin, Emma, Trevin and Kaylee of Port Charlotte. Sister Susan, nieces Sharon and Sarah, nephew Ben, all living in the Houston area. Dozens of Grand Nieces and Nephews in both the Detroit Lakes and Houston areas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home at 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port Charlotte on November 17, 2022, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM with an open service at 6:00 PM. Jan was an avid Crafter and worked with yarn, macramé, plastic and other materials to make assorted handmade quilts, holiday decorations and other items. Some of them will be on display. Most of the crafts she made were gifts to the person she created them for. She was an avid bowler and attended several WIBC national events.
In lieu of donations, the family requests that you support your local emergency responders. Jan was a volunteer ambulance EMT while living in Harvey, ND.
