Earl B. Newsom Sr., 80, of Port Charlotte, FL went home to his Lord on Thursday April 14, 2011. He was born in Tampa, FL on November 15, 1930 and lived there until moving his family to Corkscrew Swamp in 1964, where he started farming. In 1966, he moved his family to Charlotte County to farm at Babcock Ranch where he was one of the largest watermelon farmers in the United States. His love for farming was second only to his love for his wife and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Imogene Newsom, his daughter and son-in-law Judy and Jim Hall, sons and daughters-in-law Burt and Debbie Newsom, Gary and Terrie Newsom, Danny and Faye Newsom, nine grandchildren and twelve great grand children. He was preceded in death by his father Plant Newsom, his mother Hoyt Golden Newsom and brothers Ernest and Edward Newsom.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday April 20, 2011 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave. Punta Gorda, FL with the Rev. James Stultz officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Springs Cemetery.
