Betty Jane Gatewood

Betty Jane Gatewood, 94, of Englewood, Florida, formerly of Bowie, Md, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. Born and raised in Huntingdon, PA, she is predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Florence Brindle; her sisters, Arlene Chamberlin and Marion Coffman; her brother Donald Brindle; and her late husband of 50 years, Earl Edward Gatewood.

Betty was a loving christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will forever be missed by all who loved and knew her. In addition to raising five children, she worked at the Navy Yard, the Pentagon and has enjoyed her retirement from the IRS.

Betty enjoyed many hobbies including ceramics, crocheting, sewing, and working puzzles. She was a longtime member of the Bowie United Methodist Church and loved hosting Bible Study in her home for many years.

She is survived by her five children, Thomas Gatewood of Rocklin, CA; Ann Marie Lewin and her husband Lanny of Myrtle Beach, SC; Peggy Leslie and her husband Al of Englewood, FL; William Gatewood and his wife Brenda of Elliott City, MD; Danny Gatewood and his wife Terry of Edgewater, MD; and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Robert Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, Md on Friday, Sept 7th with visitation at 11:00 and service at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238.
