Surrounded by her loving family, Virginia Louise Hyde passed away peacefully at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas the morning of Sunday, December 18, 2011. Born on September 22, 1926, and was a native of Ladonia, Texas and was retired from PNG-ISD. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and resident of Groves, Texas since 1960.
Virginia and her beloved sister, Betty, were the daughters of the late Vance and Lula Thornton. As a teenager in high school, Virginia met a handsome young soldier in the US Army, Jack Hyde, who would be her husband for 69 years. Their happy union produced a strong and supportive family, including daughter, Pamela Kingston and Cindy Hyde; sons, Jerry, Ronald, David, Randy, and the late Phillip Hyde; 18 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Other family members important in Virginia’s life were her niece and nephew Teresa and Billy Allen.
Virginia was a deeply spiritual woman who prized love, compassion, and generosity of self above all things. With a sharp sense of humor and a grace that was both warm and inviting, Virginia touched the lives of many people. Her love for her family, friends, and even strangers that needed a hand was the driving force behind countless good deeds and a well lived life. She will be missed by many.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home Chapel in Port Arthur, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jerry Hyde, Ronald Hyde, David Hyde, Randy Hyde, Jerad Hyde and Jonathan Hyde. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephen Hyde, and Christopher Hyde.
