Mary was born on December 13, 1926, to Lillie Parker Northrup and Leon Andrew Northrup in Saucier, Mississippi. She came to Port Arthur in 1941 at age 15 and lived with her sister, Pearlie & Adley Dupuis. In 1942, she married Sam Jones and together they had three children, Gilbert, Gary and Sheridan. Ruth was mainly a homemaker and stayed at home to raise the children. In later years, she had several jobs. In 1988 after an accident from falling, she became handicap which prevented her from driving or working. However, this did not stop her from helping others. In 1992, she even took care of her great granddaughter, Baylee even though she was walking with a walker. She at one time or another took care of several of her great grandchildren and grandchildren when they were little. Ruth loved to be with family and friends more than anything. The closeness of her father and two sisters in Port Arthur and her Baby sister in Mississippi was never ending even taking her last breath on Earth the same day that Sister Elsie had gone home to be with the LORD and SAVIOR five years ago.
Ruth dedicated herself to Our Lord in 1957 at Lakeview Methodist Church in Port Arthur. She should have become a Catholic, sisters, Azalle, Pearlie Elsie and her dearest friend Rose were; between the four of them Ruth began to know the Bible. In the last several years, prayers were the first thing, last thing at night plus in between, praying for everyone including herself. Ruth has left behind a daughter, Sheridan Thornell and her husband, Robert Thornell, Sr. of Fred, Texas who she lived with for twelve years in Port Arthur and eleven months in Fred; she only got to enjoy the fall and the spring; sons, Gary Jones and is wife Aldera of Port Acres and Gilbert Jones and his wife Judy of Groves; grandchildren, Damon, Brian, Robin, Troy, Kurt, Melanie, Jason, Kristi, Melissa, Carrie, Stacey and Robert, Jr.; twenty-three grandchildren; nephew, Keith Dupuis; niece, Jennifer Laird; numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and great nieces and the dearest of friends, Rose Nolan. Ruth will be missed by everyone that she touched their lives in one way or another. Rest in Peace our Precious mother.
