Maria Del Socorro Martinez

Maria Del Socorro Martinez, age 57, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Maria was born May 13, 1965 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Felipe Martinez Lopez and Juana Gandara Vasquez.

Socorro was raised in Tampico, Tamaulipas, where she attended Morelos Secondary School. She earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Universidad del Golfo. She worked all her life from the age of 9 doing different jobs, mostly in the restaurant industry, including Wendy's, Casa Ole, and McDonald's. Her only daughter, Adriana, was born in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She lived in Mexico most of her life before moving to Port Arthur, Texas. She traveled to many places in the United States, including Chicago, Florida, Maryland, and many cities in Texas.

Socorro was a very hardworking woman. She was strong willed, compassionate, honest, and had an amazing heart for her family and friends. She fought for what she believed in and stood up for those in need. She always knew what she wanted and worked hard for it. She liked reading and watching YouTube videos and TikTok on her downtime. She enjoyed playing loteria, watching movies on Netflix, and just having fun with her family. Socorro was special to us in many ways; she was a fun coworker and good friend whom many loved, she was caring and always full of life, and was always willing to help anyone in any way she could.

She is preceded in death by her father Felipe Martinez Lopez, her Mother Juana Gandara Vasquez, her husband Guillermo Rueda Cervantes, and her sister Oralia Martinez Gandara.

She is survived by her daughter, Adriana Rueda Martinez; sister Luisa Martinez Gandara; brother Felipe Martinez Gandara; nephews Jose Gandara Hernandez, Daniel Martinez Gandara, Jesus Osario Martinez, Aldair D. Villarreal; niece Dolores Villarreal; second-nephews Daniel E. Martinez Jr. and Diego N. Martinez. And will be missed by her dog Yeimy, her "grandaughter".

A Gathering of Family and Friends for Maria will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th St, Port Arthur, Texas 77642.
