Leon Herald Shelton Sr., age 86, of Groves and The Woodlands, Texas passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020. Leon was born May 26, 1934 in Carnegie, OK. Leon was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves and St. Simon & Jude Catholic Church of The Woodlands. He was an ACTS brother. Leon had a very blessed life, filled with love of family and friends. For many years he served with pride as a Eucharistic Minister of St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church. He also served in the United States Army for two years, he was a proud veteran. Leon worked many years for Port Arthur Electric and when they sold out he moved to the Beaumont Reserve Fleet and continued as an electrician. He retired at 72 from the Fleet.
Leon loved his family and his God. He was married for 59 years to the one and only love of his life, together they had four children. He loved camping and fishing and traveling out of the state to visit his family.
Leon was 1 of 6 children (his mother had 4 sets of twins). He and his brother were identical and they had so much fun dressing alike and trying to fool people.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, LaVon and Mathilda; his brothers LaVon and Ronald; a sister Joyce and a very special son-in-law Mike Coleman.
Leon is survived by his wife, Mary Shelton; his children Leon Shelton, Jr. and wife Lauren of Beaumont, LaVonna "Tina" Coleman of The Woodlands, Mathilda "Marti" Lynch and husband Rodney of Groves and Andrea "Andi" Gregory and husband James of Port Neches. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, David Coleman (Krissy), Kristen Coleman (Jason Herman), Lucas Shelton, Jacob Lynch (Phoebe),
Jordan Lynch Fountain (Phil), Alyssa Gregory Ogrydziak (Sumner), Noah Gregory, Emily Gregory; his great grandchildren Michael, Hadleigh, Jude and Nora. Survivors also include his brother, Donald Shelton; his sister, Joan Benson; a sister-in-law Ruby Moore; a brother-in-law, Allin Hill; a nephew Donald Tillman and a host of other nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00PM Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Immaculate Conception St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves with a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 5:30. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with the interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
