Gerald Joseph “Buddy” Bertrand, 73 of Port Acres passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Buddy was born November 3, 1948, in, Abbeville, Louisiana to the late Joseph and Olita Bertrand. Buddy is described by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father and paw paw to his wife, daughters and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buddy was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Port Acres. Buddy served his country in the United States Navy and is a Vietnam Vet. Buddy proudly served his community as a Fireman for 7 years before ending his career as a truck driver for Central Freight Lines for 35 years. Buddy was an avid fisherman who always had the story the size of Texas to tell. He loved going to his camp for days on end to enjoy the lake. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert James Bertrand “Bobby”.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Bertrand of Port Acres; daughters, Victoria Killingsworth of Port Acres, Monique Breaux and her husband Derek of Port Acres, Angela Havard and her husband Chad of Vidor, Kathleen Roff and her husband Daryl of Hudson, brother Gary Bertrand of Nederland, sister Janet Dietz and husband Jerry of Waco, his grandchildren: Anthony Minaldi and his wife Kristen, Bailey Alvarado and her husband Jayden, Luke Minaldi, Dakota and Peyton Breaux, Haylie and Colby Havard, Remington and Hoyt Roff; his great-grandchildren: Dayton and Kaleb Breaux and Allie and Emily Minaldi.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Little Flower Catholic Church, Port Acres, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Nederland. Pall bearers will be Chad Havard, Daryl Roff, Derek Breaux, Dakota Breaux, Colby Havard, Remington Roff, Hoyt Roff and Peyton Breaux.
