Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother. She loved family, bingo and was an avid Astros fan. She also loved and attended many of Lee Greenwood’s concerts. Evelyn and her sister, Vivian, were known by Lee Greenwood as his “Texas Sweethearts”.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Hermance F. Stagg and Jean Pierre Fontenot; her loving husband, Willis Erman Fontenot; sister, Ruby M. Long and husband, Earl D. Long; brothers, Aubrey P. Fontenot, Sr. and Wade Fontenot.
She is survived by sons; Richard W. Fontenot and wife, Dinah of Carlyss, LA; John E. Fontenot and wife, Linda of Hemphill, TX; Stephen P. Fontenot and wife, Sherrie of Sugar Land, TX; Glenn A. Fontenot and wife, Susan of Groves, TX; daughters, Sarah J. Creel and husband, Leonard of Cedar Park, TX; and Nola L. Martin and husband, Dean of Port Neches, TX; sister, Vivian Melancon of Austin, TX; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews in Texas, Louisiana and Washington State.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 19, 2013 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, with Rev. David Placette officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
